Acclaimed band runs free workshop for young people
Young people interested in music, video and performance are invited to attend an exciting free workshop with top electronic band members at Swindon College. The ‘Creative VJ’ing Workshop’ is organised by the University of Bath’s Division for Lifelong Learning and aimed at youngsters aged 14 to 16 and will run from 3-7 August at Swindon College.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Young people interested in music, video and performance are invited to attend an exciting free workshop with top electronic band members at Swindon College.
The ‘Creative VJ’ing Workshop’ is organised by the University of Bath’s Division for Lifelong Learning and aimed at youngsters aged 14 to 16 and will run from 3-7 August at Swindon College.
VJ’ing is short for Video Jockeying which is performance art mixing music and video. The artists leading the workshop are acclaimed VJs from the ‘I Am The Mighty Jungulator’ ( IATMJ ) band.
The IATMJ band won best new electronic act at the 2004 Diesel New Music Awards and have toured the world since. They regularly VJ at the Big Chill festival and have designed visuals for international dance DJ Nick Warren as well as featuring in a VJ showcase on BBC2’s Blast Friday.
Anne Olesen, from the University of Bath, said: “This is a one-off and unique opportunity for young people aged 14 to 16 from Wiltshire and the surrounding counties to take part in an exciting and creatively challenging free workshop where they’ll build a VJ performance under the watchful and multi-skilled guidance of the I Am The Mighty Jungulator band members. ”
On the last day of the workshop participants will stage a performance for family and friends.
Participation is free to applicants who comply with eligibility criteria.
The workshop is part of the University’s Creative Arts Weeks programme which targets secondary school pupils in Swindon and Wiltshire and aims to raise aspirations, build confidence, raise awareness about educational opportunities and increase participation in Higher Education.
