(Media-Newswire.com) - Former North Idaho College baseball player Jason Bay earned a start for the American League Major League Baseball All-Star team on Tuesday, July 14. This was the third All-Star game for Bay and his first start.
The American League won for the 12th time in 13 years with its 4-3 win over the National League. Bay was 1 of 2 in the contest and his RBI single gave the American League All-Stars a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The other game ended in a tie, leaving the American League unbeaten in the past 13 mid-summer classics. The win gives the American League home-field advantage in the World Series this fall.
Bay, was inducted into the inuagural NIC Athletics Department Hall of Fame this spring. He is still the all-time leader in hits, runs, home runs, RBIs, and batting average for the NIC baseball program, which was discontinued in 2002. Bay was the leading vote-recipient amongst American League outfielders this season for the All-Star game in St. Louis. He currently leads the American League East first-place Red Sox in home runs ( 20 ) and RBIs ( 72 ), and his RBI total leads the American League.
Bay completed his collegiate career at Gonzaga University after his two-year career as a Cardinal ended in 1998. Bay was the National League Rookie of the Year for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2004.
