(Media-Newswire.com) - Texas A&M has released its new iTunes University site – just in time for the start of the fall semester. Tagged as the "Sites, Sounds, and Spirit of Texas A&M To Go," the site features more than 1,000 academic and student life podcasts available to the general public and campus community.
Academic content includes course lectures, student class projects and educational success tips, such as the popular "Wired Study Tips." Student life podcasts include school songs, Aggie traditions, student organizations, admissions tips, and resume skills from the Career Center and the University Writing Center. The university's first music video, "Deep Breath," is also available from the site.
Launched in 2006, "Texas A&M on iTunes U" was among the first 16 iTunes U sites in the nation. Over the last three years, the site has grown in popularity with traffic increasing from 500 to more than 30,000 downloads a month. Texas A&M is also listed as a "preferred provider" in the main iTunes U site from among over 250 other schools and universities with iTunes U sites.
"Due to the growth and popularity of our site, it was time to update our site with a new look that showcases the great content contributed by our faculty, staff, and students," says Diane C. McDonald, Texas A&M associate director of marketing. "We wanted a contemporary design that appealed to students, so we sought input from our Department of Visualization Studies. A student from this program worked with us over the course of a semester to recommend the initial concepts."
The university's marketing web team then built upon the student's initial concepts to create a new look that features fresh graphics, high-quality photography and a consistent, branded theme. The redesign also includes the iTunes U portal at http://itunes.tamu.edu/, which features new content and the "top 10 downloads" list. In addition, an expanded FAQ section provides additional podcasting resources for users and contributors.
The site is accessible with any PC and content can be downloaded for mobile use with any iPod or iPhone. With the new 3.0 software update for iPhone and iPod touch, users can now directly access iTunes U over both cellular and wi-fi networks through the iTunes Store.
Proposed contributions of audio, video or PDF materials to "Texas A&M on iTunes U," should be emailed to the iTunes U Team at itunes@tamu.edu.
