(Media-Newswire.com) - EUXTON Library on St Mary's Gate, Euxton is set to reopen following a major refurbishment to transform services available to library users and the local community.
On Monday, 10 August, Euxton Library will open its doors to the public following a £430,000 revamp to modernise and improve facilities as part of Lancashire County Council's Library Regenerate Programme.
The programme aims to create modern, attractive and flexible spaces from which staff can deliver the wide range of services, traditional and new, which meet the needs and expectations of local communities across the county.
In addition to the refurbishment, there has been further investment in extending the library at the side and rear of the building. A contribution towards the total funding was made available under Section 106 planning agreement from the Buckshaw Village scheme, to ensure that the redevelopment meets the needs of a growing community.
The new look library now provides a light, spacious and open environment with mobile shelving to create flexible community spaces, an increased number of public computers with free internet access and a public toilet.
A new main entrance with automatic doors has also been installed to meet the required Disability Discrimination Act ( DDA ) standards, providing easy access for customers with disabilities and mobility problems, and also parents with pushchairs.
Donald Brooks, Area Manager for Lancashire County Library and Information Service, said:
"All of the staff involved in Euxton Library are looking forward to welcoming the people of the village back into their extended and upgraded building and I'm sure that when local residents see it for themselves, they will be as impressed as I am by the bright new look. It will be a lot easier to hold events for children and families in the space available and parents will doubtless find the toilet and baby-change facilities a welcome addition.
"Euxton is a place that is changing and expanding dramatically and the work we have been able to undertake means that we can provide a range of facilities that fully meets community expectations of a twenty-first century library service."
