(Media-Newswire.com) - Lincoln, Neb., August 12th, 2009 — The Kruger Collection of Miniature Furnishings and Decorative Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present a traveling exhibit of miniature rooms based on popular children's books.
The exhibit, "Little Nooks from Great Books," features scenes from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "Little Women," "Little House on the Prairie," "Peter Pan and Wendy," "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," and "Felicity Learns a Lesson: A School Story." Specific scenes include the cabin interior from "Little House on the Prairie" and the Gryffindor common room from "Harry Potter," among others.
The exhibit promotes reading and educates viewers on historical furnishings. After completing a successful run in seven Lincoln Public Schools during the 2008-09 school year, "Little Nooks" will travel to two Lincoln libraries this fall: the Bennett Martin Public Library and UNL's Love Library. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The public can view the exhibition at the following dates and locations:
* Aug. 21-Oct. 25, Bennett Martin Public Library, second floor, 136 S. 14th St.
* Oct. 31-Dec. 17, Love Library, 13th and R streets.
At 10:30 a.m. Sept. 19, DiAnna Hemsath, curator of the Kruger Collection, will give a talk at the Bennett Martin Public Library about the exhibit and the Kruger Collection miniatures.
The Kruger Collection was founded in 1997 with the donation of Eloise Kruger's 20,000-piece collection of 1-to-12 scale miniatures. Kruger began assembling her collection in the late 1930s and it includes the work of top miniature artists including Eric Pearson, Eugene Kupjack, Bob Carlisle, Warren Dick, Mell Prescott and Betty Valentine. The gallery, Room 113 of Architecture Hall, 10th and R streets, is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. There is no admission charge.
