(Media-Newswire.com) - Phoenix artist Julie Gilbert Pollard leads off a series of three art exhibitions this fall sponsored by the Glendale Community College ( GCC ) Associated Student Government.
In an exhibition titled "Brilliant Color," Pollard's oil and watercolor presentations will be displayed for the public beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, and close Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the GCC Student Union, located near the center of the main campus at 59th and W. Olive avenues. A formal opening with reception and light refreshments is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in SU104 in the Student Union. The artist is scheduled to attend the free event, which is open to the public.
Garden portraits and Arizona landscapes are among Pollard's specialties. She paints with brilliant, vivid colors in a representational style that is influenced by her own personal concept of reality.
"The eye may see as a camera sees, but the mind's eye sees an altered, imagined image – what it wants and hopes to see," Pollard said. "It's that illusive image, uniquely mine, along with a heightened sense of realness that I try to express in my paintings."
The artist is the author of the newly published book Brilliant Color: Painting Vibrant Outdoor Scenes. An instructor in watercolor and oil since 1985, Pollard conducts classes and workshops at Scottsdale Artists' School, West Valley Art Museum and Cynthia's Art Asylum. A frequent award winner, Pollard's oils and watercolors have hung in numerous juried and gallery exhibits. Her work is included in many private and corporate collections and is represented by Artistic Viewpoints Gallery and Studio in Gardnerville, Nev., and in Arizona by Esprit Decor Gallery in Phoenix & Windrush Gallery in Sedona. Her website at www.JulieGilbertPollard.com showcases other examples of her art.
Additional fall art exhibitions will feature two faculty members of the GCC Art Department. Mixed media paintings by Gaylen Stewart will be shown Oct. 5-28, and ceramics by Dr. Harry Kaino III will be displayed Nov. 2-Dec. 3. Receptions with the artists are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in SU104 on the opening nights of their respective exhibitions.
