(Media-Newswire.com) - The University of Iowa and Des Moines Area Community College ( DMACC ) have partnered to allow DMACC students to earn a bachelor's degree without ever leaving their DMACC campus.
The new program started this fall session. UI President Sally Mason and DMACC President Rob Denson will formally sign an agreement during a presentation at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in Building 24 on the DMACC Ankeny campus.
"These degree programs extend the reach of the University of Iowa to all Iowans, which in turn increases the knowledge base of our state's workforce," Mason said. "We are pleased to partner with DMACC on this initiative."
Students who complete their Associate of Arts ( AA ), Associate of Applied Science ( AAS ) or an Associate of Science ( AS ) degree may continue to take UI courses during the fall and spring semester while remaining on the DMACC campus. A blended course delivery method including online with face-to-face support and discussion will be utilized. To complete degree requirements from a distance, students must also take additional online course work.
The partnership allows DMACC students to pursue four different tracks within the Bachelor of Liberal Studies ( BLS ) and Bachelor of Applied Studies ( BAS ) degree programs. The four tracks are: General Studies; Nonprofit Management Certificate; Entrepreneurial Management Certificate; and Justice Studies ( currently under development ).
"Our collaboration with the University of Iowa represents an important milestone for both our institutions and the students we serve," Denson said. "The agreement provides more flexibility and options for our students to achieve greater academic success. We look forward to building upon this partnership with the University of Iowa.
