Bath Spa students will be celebrating the launch at the University's Newton Park campus with the help of Liquid Soap's charity partner, Wherever the Need. This Bath-based charity specialises in building eco-sanitation toilets and providing clean drinking water for people in Africa and South-East Asia. Wherever the Need will be constructing two special eco-sanitation toilet cubicles, which will contain viewing screens broadcasting the first episode and a special making of documentary from 12noon-2pm on Monday 12 October. The Liquid Soap cast and crew will in turn be raising money for the charity across campus.
Four further five-minute episodes of Liquid Soap, making up the debut series, will be released online on 26 Oct, 2,9 and 16 November.
This project is part of Bath Spa University's innovative approach to arts learning and teaching, where the University aims to provide a fully professional environment for Bath Spa screenwriting, performing arts and broadcast media students. Liquid Soap is directed by EastEnders producer/director Chris Jury and Touch Films producer Nic Jeune, who have worked with a team of student writers, performers and technicians.
At least fifteen episodes will be produced each year for the next five years, with the aim of establishing Liquid Soap as a cult soap-opera institution and enabling Bath Spa University to lead the way in the emerging world of Internet broadcasting.
