British Waterways Board â€" re-appointments and appointment of new Vice Chair
Environment Minister Huw Irranca-Davies has announced the re-appointment of John Bridgeman CBE, TD, and Nigel Hugill to the Board of British Waterways. John Bridgeman has been appointed Vice Chair of the British Waterways Board, following Richard Bowker’s resignation from the Board.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Environment Minister Huw Irranca-Davies has announced the re-appointment of John Bridgeman CBE, TD, and Nigel Hugill to the Board of British Waterways.
John Bridgeman has been appointed Vice Chair of the British Waterways Board, following Richard Bowker’s resignation from the Board.
The appointment to Vice Chair will be for three years and will run until 24 September 2012. The post is part time and attracts a remuneration of £17,184 initially for a commitment of 3.5 days per month.
John Bridgeman has been a member of the British Waterways Board since September 2006. He acts as Director with special responsibility for Wales and is establishing a British Waterways Welsh Advisory Council. He is also Chairman of the Fair Trading Committee, a member of both the Audit and the Ombudsman Committees and serves as a British Waterways Pension Trustee.
Nigel Hugill has been a member of the Board since September 2006. He is Chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Property Committee of the Board.
The appointment will be for three years and run until 24 September 2012. The post is part-time and attracts remuneration of £13,030 per annum with an additional fee of £1,000 payable for service on Remuneration, Pensions, Fair Trading, Audit and Property Committees, plus an additional £1,500 for acting as Chair of one of those Committees. The time commitment is agreed annually with the Chairman of the Board, but is between two and four days a month.
The appointments been made in accordance with guidance issued by the Office for the Commissioner for Public Appointments ( OCPA ). Political activity plays no part in the selection process.
Biographical details Mr Bridgeman has been a member of the British Waterways Board for three years. He is a former Director General of Fair Trading, Member of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission and CEO of British Alcan Aluminium plc. He is also an Independent Regulatory Director of the British Horseracing Authority, Chairman of the Audit and Standards Committees for Warwickshire’s County Council and Police Authority, Complaints Adjudicator for the Association for Television on Demand and an independent consultant in Corporate Strategy, Competition Policy and Consumer Affairs.
Mr Hugill is the former Chairman of Lend Lease Europe and previously Managing Director of Chelsfield plc. He is special adviser to the Homes and Communities Agency, a member of the General Council of the British Property Federation and the Independent Transport Commission. He is a Governor of the London School of Economics and a Trustee of the Architecture Foundation.
