Iran - Do We Still Have Rights in the 21st Century?
The Arcadia Foundation vehemently condemns and rejects the recent sentencing of three young protestors in Iran and asks the international community, citizens of the world and their respective governments to raise their voices of protest and to demand that the authorities of Iran rectify and lapse this sentence and to immediately liberate their citizens, who exerted their freedom to express themselves.
(Media-Newswire.com) - The Arcadia Foundation is adamantly concerned about the promotion of democracy and believe in the fundamental protection of civil and political rights and liberties throughout the world. We are specifically pertaining to the violation of human rights that have occurred of recent date, in countries in which right to the protest is met only with prosecution, such as in the nations of Iran and Venezuela.
The right to protest is a consecrated, universal and fundamental right, accepted by all. We are therefore alarmed by the sentence of capital punishment given to three Iranians due to their participation in the protests that exploded after the controversial re-election of the president, Mahmud Ahmadineyad. The hearing in Iran violated the principles and norms of international rights. We therefore vehemently condemn and reject this verdict and ask the international community, citizens of the world and their respective governments to raise their voices of protest and to demand the authorities of Iran rectify and lapse this sentence and to immediately liberate these three citizens, who exerted their freedom to express themselves.
The Arcadia Foundation asks those in the world who believe in representative democracy to denounce such legal barbarism as it contradicts the advances of a society that chooses to live peacefully and in freedom.
