UNO Arts and Sciences Speaker Series Continues Oct. 22 with Mathematics Discussion
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) College of Arts and Sciences Centennial Speaker Series continues Thursday, Oct. 22, with a panel discussion featuring three mathematics alumni. "Panel Discussion: Careers and Mathematics" will take place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in 116 Durham Science Center.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha ( UNO ) College of Arts and Sciences Centennial Speaker Series continues Thursday, Oct. 22, with a panel discussion featuring three mathematics alumni. "Panel Discussion: Careers and Mathematics" will take place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in 116 Durham Science Center.
The event, also part of the Department of Mathematics "Cool Math Talks" Series, is free and open to the public. Dora Matache, associate professor of mathematics, will serve as moderator.
The panelists will speak about the benefits mathematics has had on their careers and lives, and discuss opportunities available to students with a math background. The audience will also have an opportunity to ask questions.
Participating UNO alumni:
- Gary Beck, administrator for the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Pediatrics, received his M.A. in math from UNO in 2006.
- Janna Eckhardt, actuarial trainee at Mutual of Omaha, received her B.S. in math from UNO in 2005.
- Ty Reil, assistant vice president of information technology and business development at National Indemnity, received his B.S. in math from UNO in 1994 and an M.S. in math in 1997.
The yearlong speaker series is part of the UNO College of Arts and Sciences' centennial celebration, which highlights the college's many departments and alumni. Established in 1909, Arts and Sciences is the university's first college and largest academic unit.
