Queensland's Minister for Women Karen Struthers today conducted a tour of women in non-traditional careers for the South Australian Minister for the Status of Women, Gail Gago.
(Media-Newswire.com) - The Bligh Government’s efforts to attract women to trade careers are being recognised interstate.
Queensland’s Minister for Women Karen Struthers today conducted a tour of women in non-traditional careers for the South Australian Minister for the Status of Women, Gail Gago.
Tour host, Skills Tech Australia, a leading institute for trade and technical training, has dozens of female apprentices training as painters and decorators, electricians and in foundry trades.
Minister Struthers outlined the Women in Hard Hats program to Minister Gago during the tour.
“It’s all about creating opportunities in mining, construction, science, engineering and technology. They’re all viable careers for women and girls.
“If we expand the talent pool in these industries to include both genders, then Queensland will be competitively placed for future economic growth,” Ms Struthers said.
“I’ve met some truly inspiring young women today and I take my hat off to them for breaking down occupational stereotypes,” she said.
“There’s no reason why women and girls can’t be some of Queensland’s budding mine managers, plant operators, scientists and engineers,” she said.
