Hope Vale kids to benefit from the Child Wellbeing officer
Giving kids the best start in life will be priority number one for Hope Vale's new Child Wellbeing officer, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Desley Boyle said today.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Giving kids the best start in life will be priority number one for Hope Vale’s new Child Wellbeing officer, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Desley Boyle said today.
“It is important to get things right in the early years and the Child Wellbeing officer will make sure the lines of communication are open ensuring kids get the help they need,” Ms Boyle said.
“The Child Wellbeing officer will work with key service providers like Nola’s Place, George Bowen Creche and Kindy, Education Queensland and Queensland Health to help cut through red tape, reduce overlap and ensure children have access to the services they need.
“Council is hoping to appoint a local person to the role – someone with connections to the community who can work closely with families ensuring they are able to access the services they need.
“For instance, the Child Wellbeing officer will work with teachers and if they think a child might not be getting enough sleep at home then they can work through the issue with the child’s parents and a Cape York Welfare Reform case manager.
“Or when the Queensland Health ENT specialist visits the community the Wellbeing Officer will make sure at kids with ear or hearing problems get the attention they need.
“They will also emphasise the importance of early childhood education. Kids who attend kindergarten do better throughout all their education right up to high school.”
Ms Boyle said the Child Wellbeing officer would complement a range of programs and activities currently active in Hope Vale to improve the community’s quality of life.
