(Media-Newswire.com) - The Office of Fair Trading has issued a show cause notice to a Gold Coast security provider following an incident in Surfers Paradise on Saturday night.
Minister for Fair Trading Peter Lawlor said police had charged the security provider with assault occasioning bodily harm following the incident.
“The security provider was interviewed by OFT officers at the Gold Coast this morning,” Mr Lawlor said.
“He has 28 days from the date of receipt of the notice to show cause why his licence shouldn’t be suspended pending the outcome of the court case,” he said.
Last year the OFT began using a computer system called SCRAM ( short for Suitability, Checking, Reporting and Monitoring ) which checks Queensland’s 23,000 licensed security providers against Queensland Police Service ( QPS ) records.
Mr Lawlor said SCRAM conducted checks which showed whether any licensed security providers had been charged or convicted of a disqualifying offence in the past 24 hours.
“If a security licence holder is detected by SCRAM as having been charged with a disqualifying offence they have 28 days from the date of receipt of the notice to show cause why they should not be suspended pending the outcome of the charges,” Mr Shine said.
“Disqualifying offences include offences such as assault, sexual assault, fraud, murder, stealing and drug offences.”
