(Media-Newswire.com) - Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Thursday, December 3, in honor of a Fort Drum Soldier who died in Iraq on November 27.
Private 1st Class Michael Rogers, a resident of White Sulphur Springs, Montana, died in a non-combat related incident at Forward Operating Base Hammer, located east of Baghdad. He was a member of the 210th Brigade Support Battalion of the 10th Mountain Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I wish to express our condolences to the family, friends and fellow service members of Private First Class Rogers,” Governor Paterson said. “We regret his death but we will remember his service. Although he was not a New Yorker, we consider all soldiers based at Fort Drum as our own.”
Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all State buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor and tribute to our State’s service members who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
