Solomon Islands Earthquake Slams with 7.2 Magnitude
The Solomon Islands located in the Pacific Ocean was hit with a 7.2 earthquake today. The larger earthquake came after a smaller but powerful 6.5 magnitude which set off the possibilities of tsunamis.
(Media-Newswire.com) - The Solomon Islands located in the Pacific Ocean was hit with a 7.2 earthquake today. The larger earthquake came after a smaller but powerful 6.5 magnitude which set off the possibilities of tsunamis.
The 7.2 earthquake hit just after 9:30 A.M. local time. A 6.5 magnitude hit just earlier coming about 45 minutes before the larger.
No threat has been mentioned for Australia or its coastline.
The island is known for being in a zone where there are earthquakes and natural events. The last event was an 8.1 magnitude earthquake that ended up starting a tsunami in April 2007.
