(Media-Newswire.com) - WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 55th edition of the Purdue Newsreel, a video collection of university highlights from 2009, is now available.
The 13-minute program, produced by the Creative Services unit of the Office of Marketing and Media, can be viewed on the Web or is available from the Purdue Undergraduate Library. The video also can be purchased from the Purdue Alumni Association.
The video, "Signaling Success," is sponsored by the Alumni Association. It is shown to Purdue alumni clubs around the world. Kathy Bruni, a 1989 alumna and a production assistant in Purdue Convocations, narrates the 2009 newsreel, which was produced and directed by Ray Cubberley, senior broadcast producer in marketing and media.

Highlights in the 2009 video include: the classroom success program called Signals; dedications for the Hockmeyer Hall of Structural Biology, Niswonger Aviation Technology building, McGinley Plaza in Discovery Park and the Amelia Earhart statue; the groundbreaking for the Crew Boathouse; the donation to the library flight archives of papers from three Purdue astronauts; the talk by Purdue astronaut alum Andrew Feustel; two Purdue astronauts on the International Space Station celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing; the opening of a new residence hall called First Street Towers; a $105 million grant from the National Science Foundation for Purdue to lead the new Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation; Grand Prix moving to a new home; and alumni events including PASE, Boilermaker Ball, Gala weekend, alumni leaders conference, Young Alumni Award, Special Boilermaker Award, and the alumni band marching for the first time in the Indy 500 Parade.
Other events in the video include: the premier of a film documenting the history of blacks at Purdue; Purdue Solar Racing placing first in an international competition for fuel efficient vehicles; the Compliment Guys; the Golden Girl winning the nation's highest twirling award; a Purdue agronomy professor winning the World Food Prize; football highlights, including the victory over highly ranked Ohio State; men's and women's basketball highlights, including comments from both coaches and the men's first-ever Big Ten Tournament championship; a female golfer becoming the first to be crowned NCAA champion; a male diver earning the title NCAA diver of the year; singing by the Purduettes; and comments from alumni association executive director and CEO Kirk Cerny.
