U-M surgeons receive top awards from the American Orthopaedic Society
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Three surgeons from the University of Michigan Health System’s sports medicine program, known as MedSport, were recognized for their substantial contributions to orthopaedic sports medicine with top awards by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
(Media-Newswire.com) - ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Three surgeons from the University of Michigan Health System’s sports medicine program, known as MedSport, were recognized for their substantial contributions to orthopaedic sports medicine with top awards by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Asheesh Bedi, M.D., who is also an assistant professor of sports medicine and shoulder surgery in the U-M Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, received the Cabaud Memorial Award for his research examining the kinematics of the knee after injury.
Bruce Miller, M.D., also an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery in the U-M Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, received the O’Donoghue Sports Injury Research Award for his study exploring ultrasound examinations after arthroscopic repairs in large shoulder rotator cuff tears.
Jon Sekiya, M.D., also an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery in the U-M Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, received the Excellence in Research Award for his paper on the effect of acetabular labrum tears on hip stability.
“For three of these prestigious AOSSM awards to be given to physicians in one center is a great accomplishment,” says Edward M. Wojtys, M.D., medical director of MedSport and professor of orthopaedic surgery. “This is very exciting for our faculty and staff. These awards really showcase the diverse expertise at Michigan.”
The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine is an organization dedicated to promoting sports medicine education, research and awareness and includes national and international orthopaedic sports medicine leaders.
