Notes to Editors The Sustainable Development Commission ( SDC ) is the UK Government’s independent advisor and watchdog for sustainable development. Defra sponsors SDC on part of its functionalities, on behalf of the Cabinet Office. After a review of the SDC’s role and remit, as recommended by Securing the Future, Ministers agreed the SDC should change its status from an Advisory NDPB to an Executive NDPB; in order to better deliver its functions. On 1st February 2009, the SDC became an Executive NDPB and registered with Companies House as a Company Limited by Guarantee under the name The Sustainable Development Commission Ltd. SDC’s success depends on the roles played by the Chair, Commissioners, the Secretariat, and the Board of Directors. End
