(Media-Newswire.com) - "The American Academy of Pediatrics ( AAP ) praises the U.S. House for its passage of the federal medical assistance percentage ( FMAP ) extension today by a vote of 247-161. "Following the passage of the legislation by the U.S. Senate last week, it was imperative that the House take up this important measure quickly. FMAP is a children's issue; more than 50 percent of Medicaid recipients are children. Without the additional resources this bill brings, states would have faced budgetary crisis and likely slashed payments for necessary medical services. The AAP applauds the House for taking up this important vote this week rather than delaying much-needed fiscal relief to states as they work to recover from the impact of the economic recession. "The AAP looks forward to President Obama's signing of this bill. The AAP will continue to work to ensure that states can provide millions of children and families with access to high-quality, affordable health care through vital public programs." # # # The American Academy of Pediatrics is an organization of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
