(Media-Newswire.com) - President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will visit the Oval for a rally on Sunday ( 10/17 ). Organized by the Democratic National Committee, the President and First Lady are guests of the student organization, Ohio State College Democrats.
Rally Entrance and Details The main entrance to the rally will occur on the south side of the Thompson Library, near Mirror Lake off of Neil Avenue. The gates will open at 5 p.m., and the program is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Joining the President and First Lady on stage will be other elected Ohio officials including Governor Ted Strickland, Mayor Mike Coleman and former Senator John Glenn. Recording artist and musician John Legend also will perform.
Attendees are encouraged to travel light to speed-up the security check process. Cameras are permitted, but chairs and umbrellas are not allowed, and bags and laptops are discouraged. No signs will be allowed within the Oval area.
Concessions will be available before and during the event.
Road Closures Traffic on High Street will be diverted around the site, so motorists are encouraged to avoid that area. Additionally, the following roads will be closed and no parking will be allowed after 5 a.m. on Sunday morning:
* College Road from Woodruff Avenue to 12th Avenue * 17th Avenue between Tuttle Park Place and College * 18th Avenue between Neil Avenue and College * 19th Avenue between Neil Avenue and College * Neil Avenue from 12th Avenue to 19th Avenue * Millikin Road
Parking Those attending the rally are encouraged to access the campus via Olentangy River Road or S.R. 315, and to park in one of the following locations: * Parking lots adjacent to: -Ohio Stadium -St. John Arena -French Field House -Jerome Schottenstein Center
* Parking garages -Tuttle Parking Garage -Lane Avenue Parking Garage Parking in these locations will be free and open to the public, and garage gates will be open all day. Parking is available on a first come, first served basis, so early arrival times are encouraged.
The following parking garages will be closed all day:
* Neil Avenue Garage * Ohio Union North Parking Garage ( except for disabled parking ) * Ohio Union South Parking Garage
Disability Access ADA parking will be available in the North Ohio Union Parking Garage by entering off High Street. Disabled hang tags will be required, and the ADA rally entrance will be near the garage.
Restricted Buildings and Streets Most buildings surrounding the Oval will be closed on Sunday except for the Thompson Library, which will remain open all day. Also, access to the Wexner Center will be via the east entrance only.
