(Media-Newswire.com) - Frostburg State University’s Center for Creative Writing is hosting a reading by poet Bruce Weigl on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Frostburg’s Lyric Theater, 22 E. Main St. The reading is free and open to the public. Many of Weigl's poems are inspired by the time he spent in the U.S. Army and Vietnam. His first full-length collection of poems, “A Romance,” was published in 1979. During the 1980s, Weigl published two more poetry collections, “The Monkey Wars” and “Song of Napalm,” and in 1999, he published “Archeology of the Circle: New and Selected Poems” and “The Circle of Hanh: A Memoir.” His poems are featured in various anthologies.
"We're extremely fortunate to have Bruce Weigl coming to read in Frostburg. Few people have written about the experiences of war and of peace, of trauma and survival, of sin and forgiveness with more honesty and more poetic power," said director of the Frostburg Creative Writing Center Gerry LaFemina.
The reading is sponsored by the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing, FSU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, FSU's Department of English, the Maryland State Arts Council and the Allegany Arts Council. For more information, contact the Department of English at 301-687-4221 or the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing at 301-687-4340.
