(Media-Newswire.com) - Annapolis—ARINC Incorporated today announced that its vMUSETM common-use passenger processing technology has become the first CUPPS Platform to successfully pass compliance testing under the latest CUPPS version, V1.03.
The compliance testing was carried out by Lufthansa Systems, recognized as one of the industry’s most stringent platform testers. The ARINC vMUSE platform is able to successfully support both Windows XP and Windows 7 operating systems and applications. Version 1.03 of the CUPPS specification adds new functionality for self-boarding gates, bag scales, and multiple types of printer support.
CUPPS technology is becoming the industry standard for uniformity in passenger processing platforms. CUPPS compliance significantly reduces the time and effort necessary for deploying airline applications by standardizing the technical requirements, leading to cost savings and faster deployment.
“Through close work with Lufthansa Systems, ARINC has achieved an industry first,” stated Rob Sutton, Manager, Global Product Management. “We are extremely pleased to be able to take the vMUSE platform to the next step in the CUPPS life cycle.”
Throughout development of the CUPPS standard, ARINC has worked closely with Las Vegas McCarran Airport, and particularly with Samuel Ingalls, CIO of McCarran and Chair of the Common Use Working Group. Mr. Ingalls stated, “McCarran was one of the global airports that piloted the CUPPS platform and is now pleased to be one of many locations around the world moving forward with full implementation. It is indeed exciting to see the aviation community actively embracing the new standard, which is positioned to support innovation in the passenger processing realm into the distant future. I do want to acknowledge the exceptional contribution of ARINC to the development and progression of the CUPPS standard.”
The ARINC vMUSE platform is able to support both CUPPS and legacy applications simultaneously. This allows airports to install vMUSE with confidence that they can support any application that an airline chooses to use.
ARINC installed the first CUPPS platform in a live operational environment in January 2009 at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport. To date, the McCarran CUPPS installation has handled more than a million passengers, demonstrating that the ARINC CUPPS platform and ARINC’s vMUSE can easily handle the applications of multiple airlines written to the CUPPS technical standard.
ARINC is recognized as a leading innovator in air travel passenger technologies. Its vMUSE family of passenger systems is found at more than 105 airports worldwide, and used by 260 airlines carrying more than 300 million passengers a year.
ARINC Incorporated, a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defense and government customers worldwide.
