(Media-Newswire.com) - More than three-quarters of the 111 doctors in Greater Cincinnati cited by U.S.News & World Report as being "Top Doctors” are faculty members of the University of Cincinnati.
The unranked directory by U.S.News includes the names of 85 physicians who at the time the list was prepared were on the UC faculty. The list was developed in collaboration with data from Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., publisher of America’s Top Doctors. Those named to the list are based on peer nominations from doctors across the country. Doctors cannot nominate themselves.
U.S.News did not rank the doctors but did identify those doctors who in Castle Connolly’s estimation were among the top 1 percent in the United States in their specialty. Forty-two of the 51 doctors from the Greater Cincinnati region identified in this subgroup are UC faculty members.
The adult specialists named are members of University of Cincinnati Physicians, the faculty group practice of the College of Medicine and part of UC Health. Pediatric specialists are staff members of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, home to the college’s department of pediatrics.
The Top Doctors list was released July 19 in conjunction with the U.S.News Best Hospitals rankings. UC Health University Hospital programs among the most highly ranked included otolaryngology at No. 21 and pulmonary at No. 45.
Ten other programs were classified as being "high performing”: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and urology.
Cincinnati Children’s ranked first among U.S. children’s hospitals for gastroenterology, second for pulmonology, third for nephrology and neonatology, fourth for urology, fifth for orthopedics and cancer, sixth for diabetes and endocrinology, eighth for neurology and neurosurgery and ninth for cardiology and heart surgery.
