(Media-Newswire.com) - This year’s varsity between the University of Bath and Exeter will be the largest student sporting event in the history of the University.
The ‘Best of the South West’ event organised by Bath Student’s Union will take place across the city on Saturday 24 March and pit the Universities’ best teams against one another in a hotly anticipated ‘varsity’ fixture.
The day will start on the University campus, with matches taking place inside the Sports Training Village ( STV ) and around campus on the numerous pitches available. In the main STV Sports Hall the Netball and Badminton teams will be in action with tiered seating for those wishing to spectate whilst out on the pitches the Women’s Rugby, Women’s Football and Men’s Rugby League teams will be trying to record wins for their University.
As the event moves into the afternoon, the focus will switch to the city with the Men’s Football varsity taking place at Bath City Football club’s 8880 capacity Twerton Park stadium. Following the recent launch of a partnership agreement with Bath City and Bath University, the players will be looking to impress the selectors for a place in the Bath City development squad.
The grand finale will be the Men’s Rugby at the Recreation Ground, home of Bath Rugby. The Rugby Men’s 1st team have recently won the Premiership South league. The only blemish on their league record this season is a loss in the reverse fixture against Exeter at Sandy Park earlier in the year. With an expected crowd of over 3000 and the Bath side looking to avenge that defeat, it promises to be a hard fought affair.
Chris Clements, Students’ Union Vice-President of Sport said: “The University of Bath is one of the top sporting institutions in the country. This is a fantastic opportunity for our local community to come together to support Bath and enjoy some exciting high quality sports whilst raising money for local charities.”
The overall Varsity winners will be crowned after the Rugby match at the Recreation Ground.
All the events will be free to attend, with an optional voluntary contribution upon entry. All profits from contributions and t-shirts sold will be split jointly between the Students’ Union Sports Association and the Raise and Give charities. Separate family spectator areas will be indicated on the day.
