(Media-Newswire.com) - Fourteen-year-old Jordan is so determined to succeed at school that he hasn’t had a day off for five years – his impeccable attendance record is one of many inspiring stories being celebrated at this week’s children in care celebration events.
More than 250 nominations have been received for the accolades which shine a well-deserved spotlight on young people’s incredible successes. Leicestershire County Council holds the event every year to mark the wealth of achievement amongst the 450 children in its care and over 200 care leavers. The heart-warming stories include 17-year-old Chloe’s. Like Jordan, she is a committed member of the Children in Care Council, championing the voice of those who are looked after by the county council. Nominated for her dedication to music, Chloe’s talents have this year landed her a lead in a musical, a school prize and a trip to Westminster to represent Leicestershire’s children in care alongside the Children’s Commissioner. The music-themed, glitzy ceremonies will be held over two evenings in Loughborough tonight ( Wednesday 21 ) and Thursday 22 January. Chloe, who lives in the Hinckley area, said: “I like the awards because it’s a really fun night where everyone celebrates each other’s achievements. There are always fun things to do and there is a great atmosphere. I'm looking forward to performing with the choir as well as receiving and watching others get their award. I am also looking forward to watching the staff's performance as that always is funny. “I feel the awards are an important thing to have as it allows you to be recognised for any kind of achievement you have had throughout the year. This can then be celebrated amongst the people who care about you.” Jordan, who lives near Coalville, said: “The awards highlight that we can do lots of things. The presentation evening lets us show what we have achieved or can do to other people and rewards us for it.” Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for children and families, said: "I look forward to these annual events, and always leave thoroughly inspired by what can be achieved by some of the most vulnerable children in our care. “They are thought-provoking evenings and a crucial way for us to highlight the triumphs of our children in care, both in their personal lives and important accomplishments at school, college or university.” Photo / interview For more details of the event or to set up an interview or photograph with Chloe and Jordan, please call the county council press office on 0116 305 6274.
