(Media-Newswire.com) - Students living in University of Portland’s Schoenfeldt Hall are raising money for charity by hosting a video game tournament on Saturday, Jan. 24, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Chiles Center. The students will compete in the game Super Smash Bros. and are hoping to raise at least $500 for Holy Cross Charities in Bangladesh.
The tournament is open to all University of Portland students, and costs $10 to enter. Non-students are welcome to attend, donate, participate in non-tournament games, and purchase raffle tickets for $1. Pizza will be provided, and a Wii U will be the grand prize for the tournament winner.
“Here at Schoenfeldt, aka Padre, we love to bring entertainment to our students while also supporting our good cause,” said Joe Coulter, Schoenfeldt Hall director. “It is important for us to educate our students about our Holy Cross brothers and sisters that are around the globe. As a UP student, service and fun go hand in hand.”
All nine residence hall communities at the University of Portland, which is guided by the Congregation of Holy Cross, plan an annual event for Holy Cross charities that supports service and mission efforts in several countries worldwide.
