(Media-Newswire.com) - FAYETTEVILLE – Trafficking cocaine and other drugs along with suspected prostitution led to more than a dozen arrests and suspension of alcohol sales permits at two Fayetteville nightclubs. Tonight’s arrests are a result of a seven month investigation led by Alcohol Law Enforcement and Fayetteville Police.
ALE special agents and Fayetteville Police officers served search warrants at Sparky’s Sports Bar and Pub, 740 Bragg Blvd. and Sharky’s Cabaret, 944-C Bragg Blvd. in Fayetteville. The major focus of the operation was Sparky’s Sports Bar and Pub where agents reported receiving complaints of drug trafficking and prostitution.
During the seven month undercover operation, ALE special agents reported purchasing cocaine and narcotics from 16 employees and one alleged drug supplier at the establishments. Suspects arrested during the raid were questioned and placed in N.C. Division of Prisons vans to be transported to the Cumberland County Jail.
Additionally, ALE special agents served Suspension Orders issued by the N.C. ABC Commission resulting in the immediate suspension of ABC permits. The suspensions cease all alcohol sales at the locations.
“The arrests and the suspension of alcohol sales at both of these locations should send a clear message that criminal activity at ABC permitted establishments will not be tolerated,” said ALE special agent Derwin Brayboy. He added, “These locations have long been a problem for the community and for law enforcement.”
N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement special agents have authority to arrest for any criminal offense. Their primary responsibility is the enforcement of Alcoholic Beverage Control and state lottery laws. ALE is a branch of the State Bureau of Investigation.
